SPIRITUALS is an editorial project that sheds a light on the beauty of the African-American work songs and pays respect to their importance in the last century of music as we know it.
The project consists of three booklets: the first one features two articles about the spirituals — African-American work songs— and how they were created; the second presents a timeline of Black music that originated from spirituals; and the last one showcases selected spiritual songs.
Each booklet received its own typographic style, reflecting the role it plays in building the complete narrative of the African-American music. The project includes a system of annotations and references that guide the reader through the three booklets, revealing the connections between past and present.
